Mount Huangshan, known in the West as the Yellow Mountain, features imposing peaks with 77  of them exceeding 1,000m in altitude. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is characterized by four ‘wonders’, respectively, odd-shaped pines, rare rock formation, seas of clouds and crystal-clear hot springs. Mount Huangshan can be divided into seven distinct areas. Each of these areas promises to provide you with unprecedented adventures and views.

The famous 17th century geographer Xu Xiake, once stated: “There is no need to see other mountains if you have been to the Five Great Mountains; and there is no point to see the Five Great Mountains if you have been to Mount Huang.” In addition to Huangshan’s great natural beauty, the city of Huangshan was once the ancient region of Huizhou and is immersed in ancient Hui culture. The Hui influence flows through the city and is visible in the refreshing architecture, elegant ornaments, and tantalizing delicacies.

Day 2

MT HUANGSHAN

After breakfast, you will set off on your excursion to Visit Mount Huangshan. 黄山 Huángshān /hwung-shan/ huang means 'yellow' and shan means 'mountain(s)'. The mountain got its name because the area was renamed after the legendary Yellow Emperor (Huang Di) in 747 AD. We will use the Yungu cable car located at the Back Mountain/Eastern Route on Huangshan Mountain, and the up station is very close to Beginning to Believe Peak, Lion Peak, and Beihai Hotel.

It is worth noting that the Yellow Mountain is believed to be the place where the Yellow Emperor, the mythical ancestor of the Chinese, lived, refined precious medicines and became a supernatural being. You will enjoy spectacular views at different peaks in the area, all with fascinating names such as the Beginning-to-believe Peak; the Flower-scattering Valley; the Lion Peak; the Cloud- dispelling Pavilion; and the North Entrance of the Grand Canyon of the West Sea; etc.
