Day 1

Arrival Urumqi - Turfan

After arrival in Guizhou you will be picked up at the Upon arrival in Urumqi, you will meet your guide and immediately transfer to Turfan - The hottest, driest and 'sweetest' city of China situated on the lowest altitude. It is about 200 km and less than three hours drive.

Day 2

Turfan

After breakfast, we drive to the old city of Gaochang and enjoy the mythical flame mountain along the way (no entry). The old city of Gaochang is the most well-preserved capital city in the 36 countries of the Western Region. Master Xuanzhuang has traveled here and formed a deep friendship with King Gaochang.

Afterwards, we move on to Tuyugou Mazha Village, an Uyghur village with a history of more than 1,700 years, known as "Oriental Wheat Plus". It was once a holy place for Buddhism and Islam. Enjoy a special homemade lunch here. After lunch, we return to Turfan and go to the Turfan Museum to learn about the Silk Road culture, where amongst others well-preserved corpses are visible. Visit Karez Underground Irrigation System, that displays irrigation skills of the ancients, accustomed to local conditions, and then go to the vineyard to experience grape picking.

In the evening, enjoy the sunset at the Old City of Jiaohe.

Day 3

Turfan - Koral

After breakfast, drive to Korla , enjoy the scenery of Tianshan, Gobi Beach, and the vast inland freshwater Bosten Lake along the way. Taste the grilled fish of Lake Bosten at noon. In the afternoon, we will visit Luobu, and will be shown a mixed scene of poplar forest, desert and oasis, and an ancient looking fishing and hunting village.

After, we continue to Tiemen Pass. This used to be a key path from the north to the south of Xinjiang.

Upon arrival in Koral we check into the hotel.

Day 4

Koral - Kuqa

After breakfast, drive to Kuqa , admire the Populus euphratica along the way, and feel the powerful vitality of Populus euphratica. Around noon we arrived at Yangxi in Luntai County and can taste some authentic Xinjiang pilaf. Kuqa is the capital of the ancient Qiuci Kingdom. Qiuci was the third largest country among the 36 Western countries of the Han Dynasty.

Visit the ruins of the Subash Buddhist Temple, built during the Wei and Jin Dynasties. According to one of the three ancient Buddhist scripture translators in ancient China, Guizi, a senior monk, Kumorosh, built an altar here. Tang Xuanzhuang went to Tianzhu to take the scriptures and passed by here to pay his dues. For more than two centuries, this temple was a beacon of splendor. After Islam entered the Tarim Basin in the 14th century, the site of the Subash Buddhist Temple was abandoned.

We will visit the Kuqa Temple, the second largest temple in Xinjiang region after the Attikal Mosque. So far, the local worshippers of Islam practise five prayers here every day. We'll also see the beacon tower of the Han Dynasty. It is the best preserved beacon toweron the ancient Silk Road and the oldest to date. After more than two thousand years of wind and rain, it still stands over than 13 meters tall.

Day 5

Kuqa - Aksu

After breakfast, we drive to the mysterious Tianshan Grand Canyon to experience the magical power of nature. Afterwards, we explore the Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves . The murals reflect the glorious state of Buddhism in the ancient tortoise country and we listen to experts explain the Kizil Grottoes.

At noon, we will have a light lunch in the Kizil restaurant. We can use this time to interact with the staff of the local research institute to learn more about the story behind the Kizil murals. After lunch we engage on the drive to Aksu and check into the hotel upon arrival.

Aksu is located at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and at the northern edge of the Tarim Basin, and is named after the Aksu River. It was an important trading post on the ancient Silk Road. It was also the birthplace of the Qizi and Duolang Cultures.

Day 6

Aksu - Kashgar

Kashgar is the site of the Shule Kingdom among the 36 countries of the Western Regions, and it is also the Westernmost city in China. The city boasts a large variety of regional culture and ethnic customs. After entering the Tarim Basin, the Silk Road is divided into two roads, north and south. After bypassing the Taklama Desert, it meets in Kashgar, and then crosses the Pamirs to India, Iran, West Asia, and Europe. Kashgar is a transportation hub and gateway for China's economic and cultural exchanges with the West.

After arriving in Kashgar, we will visit the old city of Kashgar and the Etihad Mosque.

If time permits, we can continue to visit the Gaotai dwellings, where the Uyghurs have lived together for generations. Between the buildings, alleys and crisscross alleys are formed, like huge maze. The famous movie "Kite Chasers" was shot here.

Day 7

Kashgar

After breakfast, we will enjoy the ancient Kashgar welcome ceremony . Folk artists in the old city are dressed in costumes and welcoming every visitor to Kashgar.

Afterwards, we will visit the Kashgar cattle and sheep big bazaar (only on Sundays, on other days we will arranged a visit to the Kashgar City Bazaar), this is Xinjiang's largest live animal trading market. Traders use an ancient method of negotiation, both parties shaking hands back and forth while bargaining. We continue to visit the Moor Pagoda , which is a ruin of a Tang Dynasty stupa.

After, we visit Ingabakh Khoja tomb , which is the family tomb of Xiang Fei, the most favorite concubine of Emperor Qianglong (1711-1796). The daytime activities finish with a visit to the street of handicrafts, feel the rich ethnic customs of Kashgar here. In the evening, taste local barbecue in the surroundings of the old city , while listening to the melodious musical instruments and interacting with locals.

Day 8

Kashgar - Tashkurgan

The Karakorum Highway from Kashgar to Tashkurgan is not only an important passage of the ancient Silk Road, but also today's "Sino-Pakistani Friendship Road". It passes through the Karakorum Mountains, Hindu Kush Mountains, Pamirs, the western end of the Himalayas and extends through Khunjerab Pass to northern Pakistan. The total length of the road is 1032 kilometers. More than 700 people in China and Pakistan have sacrificed their lives for the construction of this road, so this road is also known as the "Heroic Road".

Along the way we pass through Shufu County and visit Oytagh Glaciers Park and Lake Karakurl Lake. Karakurl Lake is located at the foot of Muztagh Ata Snow Peak, the father of the iceberg. This is also the best place to admire the beautiful shadow of Muztagh Ata Snow Peak. In the evening, we will arrive at Tashkurgan and visit the Stone City. It once was the capital of the ancient Puli Kingdom and an important stop on the Silk Road. The sunset can be admired on the castle holding a glass of champagne.

Day 9

Tashkurgan - Kashgar

After breakfast, we drive to the Hongqilap port, the access to Pakistan, and then proceed to visit a Tajik village. You can wear Tajik costumes and take pictures with locals, and taste Tajik specialties for lunch. The Tajik people have lived on the Pamirs for generations. They are the only ethnic group from European descent among the 56 ethnic groups in China.

In the afternoon we drive back to Kashgar, enjoy the farewell dinner at night!
