Southern Thai Islands Reopen To Visitors After Marine Restoration

The picturesque Maya Bay, made famous by the Hollywood film The Beach, has once again reopened to tourists following a two-month closure for marine rehabilitation.

Located in the southern Thai province of Krabi, the popular tourist destination is home to an abundance of wildlife, from giant clams to blacktip reef sharks and colourful clownfish. The bay’s annual closure helps to ensure these wonderful aquatic creatures are protected from overtourism and continue to thrive for future generations to enjoy.

The reopening of Maya Bay on 1 October 2024 coincided with the reopening of nearby attractions, Loh Samah Bay and Lor Kor Bay. Our Island Hopping in the Phi Phi Islands programme allows guests to discover the beauty of Maya Bay and the surrounding area.

Thailand’s Similan and Surin Islands, off the country’s west coast, also reopened for visitors on 15 October 2024. Located in the Andaman Sea, these picturesque archipelagos are popular for snorkelling and liveaboard diving expeditions. Underwater explorers may encounter fascinating aquatic creatures, such as sea turtles, whales, dolphins and moray eels.

You can now experience the Similan Islands with us on our Best of the Similans from Khao Lak excursion. Contact us for more information or to plan a tailor-made programme to Thailand’s most picturesque islands!
