Thailand Entry Update: Travellers Reminded to Prepare Proof of Funds Before Arrival

Thailand has reminded international travellers to ensure they are prepared to show proof of sufficient funds when entering the country. The reminder is part of existing immigration requirements and does NOT introduce any new entry measures.

The requirement has long been included in Thailand’s immigration regulations, with Immigration Bureau officers authorised to request evidence of financial means during arrival screening. Depending on the traveller’s visa category, visitors may be asked to present Thai Baht, an equivalent amount in another currency, or supporting documents showing sufficient funds.

The required amounts vary according to the type of entry:

  • Visa-exempt travellers and transit passengers: 10,000 Thai Baht per person or 20,000 Thai Baht per family
  • Visa on Arrival holders: 10,000 Thai Baht per person or 20,000 Thai Baht per family
  • Tourist Visa holders: 20,000 Thai Baht per person or 40,000 Thai Baht per family
  • Non-Immigrant Visa holders: 20,000 Thai Baht per person or 40,000 Thai Baht per family

*Children under 12 are exempt from this requirement.

Travellers planning a holiday in Thailand are advised to keep any required documents easily accessible during their journey and check the latest entry information before departure. Other standard entry requirements remain unchanged, including having a valid passport, meeting visa or visa-exemption conditions, providing accommodation details when required, and holding onward travel arrangements where applicable.

With its tropical islands, vibrant cities, rich cultural heritage and world-renowned cuisine, Thailand continues to welcome travellers from around the world. Preparing the necessary documents in advance will help ensure a smoother arrival experience and allow visitors to begin their Thai adventure with peace of mind.
