🌸 DALI, YUNNAN · Cherry Blossoms
Best time to visit: Late February to mid March
While many cities of China are still cool, Dali is already welcoming spring. Cherry blossoms bloom here earlier than in most other cities, bringing soft pink colour to the lakeside town at the very end of winter.
The winter cherry blossoms in Wuliang Mountain’s Cherry Valley are among the first to bloom each year. Set among tea plantations, soft winter sunlight filters through the trees, illuminating a sea of delicate pink that stretches across the hills. This hidden corner is well worth the journey.
Blossoms line the streets of Dali Ancient Town, the well-known cherry blossom avenue at Dali University, and the tree-lined paths along Erhai Lake. With Cangshan Mountain rising behind the town and the lake stretching out before you, the atmosphere feels relaxed, far from the rush of larger cities.
👉 Suggested route: Explore Dali Ancient Town on foot, photograph the cherry blossom avenue at Dali University, cycle along the western shore of Erhai, take in panoramic views from Cangshan, and visit Xizhou Ancient Town for a glimpse of traditional Bai architecture and countryside scenery.
🌼 WUYUAN, JIANGXI · Rapeseed Blossoms
Best time to visit: Early March to mid April
In March, Wuyuan turns brilliant yellow sea as rapeseed flowers cover its terraced hillsides. White-walled villages with dark tiled roofs sit among golden fields, creating one of the most recognisable rural spring scenes in China.
Early mornings are often misty, adding a soft atmosphere to the landscape. Jiangling, Huangling and Likeng each offer different views, whether you prefer elevated viewpoints over layered terraces or quiet walks through historic village lanes.
🌺 LINZHI, TIBET · Peach Blossoms
Best time to visit: Late March to mid April
Linzhi has one of the mildest climates in Tibet and is known for its forested valleys and dramatic mountain scenery. Frequently recommended by China National Geographic, it is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in China to witness spring. Each year from March to April, wild peach trees bloom across the hillsides, creating a striking contrast against snow-capped peaks and clear blue skies.
The region is home to one of the largest areas of wild peach forest in China. Blossoms appear alongside powerful natural landmarks including Mount Namcha Barwa and the Yarlung Tsangpo River, as well as traditional Tibetan villages scattered across the valley.
👉 Suggested route: Attend the annual Linzhi Peach Blossom Festival, explore the peach valleys of Bomi, hike to Midui Glacier, visit the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, and view Mount Namcha Barwa from Suosong Village.
🌸 YILI, XINJIANG · Apricot Blossom
Best time to visit: Early to late April
Yili’s Apricot Blossom Valley is one of the largest wild apricot landscapes in the world. Ancient apricot trees spread across grassland hills, with snow-covered mountains in the distance.
The flowering season is extremely short, usually lasting just 7 – 10 days. When it arrives, entire slopes turn soft pink and white, creating an extraordinary natural display.
👉 Suggested route: Visit Turgen Apricot Valley, explore the Tianshan Mountain, travel through Nalati Grassland, stop at Sailimu Lake, and drive part of the scenic Duku Highway for sweeping mountain views in spring.
From late February to April, China offers an exceptional range of spring landscapes. Cherry blossoms in Dali, golden rapeseed fields in Wuyuan, peach blossoms in Linzhi and apricot valleys in Yili each provide a completely different experience of the season.
