Day 1

Hanoi – Mai Chau

We take a scenic drive from Hanoi to Mai Chau (3.5 hours). When we arrive at Mai Chau Valley, which is mostly inhabited by Thai and Muong ethnic minorities, we delve into local life with lunch at a family home. We then start our exploration on foot, walking to nearby Lac and Pom Coong villages. Our trail meanders alongside rice fields studded with stilted wooden houses. While ethnic Thai people do not wear traditional clothes during their daily activities, they are famous for their weaving skills and handicrafts and we will encounter this. Those who want to visit villages deeper in the valley can rent a bicycle (rental fee not included). Dinner is at our overnight accommodation in Mai Chau. Please note: You can stay at a boutique hotel, or at a local stilted house. The homestay offers a more authentic experience, but the comfort is basic. You will sleep on a mattress on a bamboo floor under a mosquito net. Jarred rice alcohol and a music performance can be arranged at an additional cost.

Day 2

Mai Chau – Hanoi

There is no better way to wake-up than to the call of nature in the heart of Mai Chau Valley. After breakfast, we leave Mai Chau for the Hmong ethnic minority village of Xa Linh, which is located about 25 km from Mai Chau. This is a small village and we take a short stroll through it to meet some of the Hmong people who reside here. We will learn about their way of life, their traditional clothing and their homes. We continue on our exploration of the area with a walk through plum and peach plantations, before driving to Hanoi. We stop along the way for lunch at a local restaurant, which is charged to your own account. We arrive at your hotel in Hanoi in the late afternoon, bringing the tour to an end.
