Day 1

Bangkok – The Float House River Kwai

This historical exploration tour takes us to Kanchanaburi province to absorb this region’s wartime history. We take in the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum dedicated to the history of the ‘death railway’ which ran 415 km from Ban Pong in Thailand to Thanbuyuzayat in Burma. This link was built by Allied prisoners of war and Asian labourers forced by the Japanese Army to undertake this mammoth task in extremely hostile conditions. We also visit the Allied War Cemetery, the resting-place for over 6,000 prisoners, as well as the world-famous Bridge over the River Kwai. We then head to the resort for check-in and lunch. We then take a long-tail boat journey on the River Kwai to visit an ethnic Mon Tribal village and temple where we will view the simple lifestyle of this indigenous group who are the earliest people to reside in South-East Asia, bringing their civilization to the region over 1,200 years ago. We will watch a cultural show and interact with our hosts and then return to the resort. Dinner is followed by a 45-minute presentation of a Mon Dance. This indigenous group are the earliest group of people to reside in South-East Asia, bringing their civilization to the region over 1,200 years ago. Their colourful costumes and traditional culture will be showcased at this event. Overnight at The Float House River Kwai.

Day 2

The Float House River Kwai – Bangkok

We take an exciting long-tail boat ride down the River Kwai and continue by road to the Hellfire Pass Museum and Memorial. This facility is dedicated to Allied prisoners of war and Asian labourers who were forced to build the Thailand to Burma ‘death railway’ in extremely harsh conditions during World War Two. After viewing the exhibits in the excellent museum and its many audio-visual displays, we walk along the original railway cutting known as Hellfire Pass which was one of the most difficult sections of rock to cut through, but it is now a haven of peace and serenity. After lunch, we take a ride on the actual railway and pass over the original wooden viaducts. We then head back to Bangkok and transfer to our respective hotels.
