Day 1

Arrival Luang Prabang

Upon arrival at Luang Prabang, you will be met by a local guide and the transfer to your hotel for check-in. We start our exploration of Luang Prabang at Wat Visoune. Originally built during the reign of King Wisunarat in 1512, the temple is Luang Prabang’s oldest and its design is influenced by Thai-Lu architecture. The temple complex also features That Makmo, a watermelon-shaped stupa. We then head to Wat Xieng Thong, or ‘monastery of the golden city’. Dating back to the 16th century, this stunning temple is highly-revered throughout Laos and houses a collection of Buddha images. We round out the day with a gentle jaunt up Mount Phousi. This sacred hill’s summit stands at 100 metres and is reached by climbing over 300 steps. The sweeping panorama of the city, with temples dotted below make the climb worth it. Day 2

Luang Prabang – Tak Bat – Pak Ou Caves

Start the day with a dose of culture and watch monks carry out the early-morning ritual of tak bat. This forms a daily part of Laotians’ lives and sees monks collect offerings in return for a blessing. We then visit a fresh fruit market before returning to the hotel for breakfast. We continue our exploration at the National Museum and former royal palace before continuing to Wat Mai and its exquisitely-carved veranda. We then board a boat and cruise along the Mekong River, stopping at a picturesque village to learn the secrets of distilling Lao Khao (traditional Lao rice wine). We spend some time exploring Tham Ting and Tham Phoum caves which house hundreds of Buddha statues, before eating lunch at a nearby restaurant. We return to Luang Prabang by boat, stopping at Ban Xang Khong, a village famous for its hand-made paper and the Ock Pop Tok weaving workshop where we get an insight into the creation of handicrafts. We then take a stroll through the old city. Dinner is at leisure on own account

Day 3

Luang Prabang – Kuang Si - Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, we take a scenic drive to Kuang Si Waterfall (32 km), which sits west of Luang Prabang. To access the falls, we take a leisurely walk through a wooded area. We will have some time to marvel at the breath-taking beauty of the falls, which have tiered cascades of turquoise water gushing into limestone pools. Don’t forget your bathers because there is the chance to take a refreshing dip in one of the natural pools. We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Luang Prabang and transferring to the airport for the onward flight.
