Day 1

Da Nang – Hoi An

After arrival in Da Nang your Asian Trails’ guide will meet you at the airport and supervise your transfer to the first stop on this fascinating tour, the city centre Cham Museum. This intriguing attraction is focused on the Cham Dynasty that ruled this area from the 2nd to the 15th centuries. This facility also contains the world’s largest collection of artefacts relating to this era. We then head to the Marble Mountains, which consist of five limestone peaks topped with pagodas and caves containing Buddhist shrines. We then drive along the coastal road to the UNESCO acclaimed ancient seaport town of Hoi An, one of Vietnam’s most captivating destinations. This picturesque destination contains narrow streets lined with temples and traditional homes. Leading attractions include the Japanese Covered Bridge and Pagoda built by Japanese residents to link with Chinese quarters across the river.

Day 2

Hoi An – My Son – Hoi An

After breakfast, we drive 40 km south-west of Hoi An to My Son, the former capital of the Champa Kingdom. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to Hindu temples, constructed between the 4th and the 14th centuries by the kings of Champa. The temples are dedicated to the god Shiva and are unique in South-East Asia. They have been constructed in fired brick with stone pillars and decorated with sandstone bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. Their technological sophistication is evidence of Cham engineering skills and the symbolism gives an insight into Cham religious thought. We then drive back to Hoi An for lunch, followed by a walking tour to explore the rich architecture in this historic town which was a prosperous seaport city between the 16-18th centuries. Highlights include the Fukien Assembly Hall and the 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge. If time permits, we see how local residents raise silkworms to produce silk for textiles.
