3 Days Enchanting Ayutthaya

Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, is one of Bangkok's best know landmark. It stands on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Thon Buri. Wat Arun is best seen from the opposite bank of the river; it glistens in the sunlight during the day and stands dark and noble at dawn or dusk. The monastery has existed for many years since the days when Ayutthaya was capital of Thailand. It was then named Wat Mokok, situated in a place called Tumbol Bangmakok. The word Bangmakok, meaning " Village of Olive", has since been shortened to " Makok". This is an original Thon Buri period hall, reconstructed in the time of Rama II. King Rama II ordered the decoration of the outer walls with ceramic tiles in falling floral pattern.

Day 3

Ayutthaya – Bangkok

Our final day of exploration of ancient Ayutthaya involves a wealth of new experiences. After breakfast we get a taste of local life on a boat trip to Wat Cherng Tha, an active monastery with a beautifully preserved ordination hall and a Khmer style central prang. This ornate temple features an interesting mix of old and new designs, mural paintings and a teak altar. You will present the donation bucket bought at Wiset Chaichan Market to the monks here. We also view Wat Klang Bang Pra which dates back to 1783 and continue our journey by boat to Wat Chaiwatthanaram. This royal temple was constructed in 1630 by King Prasat Thongin during the early Ayutthaya period. Constructed in a Khmer style, this UNESCO listed structure is one of Ayutthaya’s most famed temples. We then proceed to the Srijaroen Dockyard to get an insight into how traditional wooden boats are built and repaired. After lunch at a local restaurant we drive to Bang Pa-in to view Wat Niwetthammaprawat, a royal temple, followed by our return to Bangkok and the conclusion of the tour.
