Day 1

Bangkok – Hua Hin

Our inspirational excursion gets underway with exploration of a mysterious subterranean world. After collection from the hotel, we are taken to Tham Khao Luang, an impressive cave temple consisting of caverns filled with illuminated golden Buddha images, chedis and stalactites suspended from the ceiling. After lunch in a local restaurant, we set off on a scenic journey through a landscape of mango and papaya plantations and rice paddies to Kaeng Krachan National Park. Covering an area of 2,914 sq-km and bordering Myanmar, this is Thailand’s largest national park and a sanctuary for a wealth of wildlife including abundant bird species and mammals, such as leopards, macaques, sambar deer, elephants and golden jackals. Upon arrival in this pristine location, we take a boat trip on the 45 sq-km reservoir that is fed by the Petchaburi River. After immersion in this amazing environment, we drive directly to Laksasubha Hua Hin Resort to check-in, with time at leisure before visiting the lively Hua Hin Night Market. The opening day of this four-day discovery reveals attractions that are off the mainstream tourism radar. Overnight at Laksasubha Hua Hin Resort.

Day 2

Hua Hin

More discovery of the great outdoors follows with an adventure tour that takes in attractions in the area surrounding Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, south of Hua Hin. Our excursion gets underway with a scenic drive alongside pineapple and coconut plantations to the picturesque fishing village of Bang Pu, a traditional location locked in time. On arrival, a long-tail boat will convey us to Laem Sala Beach, the start point for a short hike to Phraya Nakhon Cave. This contains one of the most iconic landmarks in Thailand, a four-gable roofed royal pavilion called Phra Thinang Khuha Kharuhat. This was built in 1890 for King Rama V. At certain times of the year when sunlight shines from a particular angle through a sinkhole above, a penetrating beam of light is cast onto the pavilion, creating an exceptionally photogenic image. Those not wishing to climb to the cave can spend time lounging on the beach. After lunch, we enjoy leisure time on the sand, followed by the transfer back to the resort. Overnight at Laksasubha Hua Hin Resort.

Day 3

Hua Hin

Our focus today is on some of the most iconic sites in and around Hua Hin. After breakfast and checking-out from the resort, we kick off the day with a visit to Baan Sillapin, a popular artists’ village. This creative enclave is home to arts and antiques galleries, artists’ studios, a coffee and gift shop and classrooms for painting and sculpture classes. We then head to the train station to view the ornate teak Royal Waiting Room. Constructed in a Thai architectural style, this structure was relocated from Sanam Chan Palace in Nakhon Pathom province during the reign of King Rama VI when Hua Hin became a popular resort for royalty. The previous mode of transport from the capital was primarily by boat. We then head to Khao Takiab, a landmark location known as ‘monkey mountain’ because of the abundant macaques that occupy an area near the elevated temple, with a sweeping ocean panorama. After concluding our tour, we head to I Love Phants Lodge to check-in, followed by leisure time. This is an eco-inspired ethical retreat with views of an adjoining elephant sanctuary positioned in a peaceful forest clearing. Overnight at I Love Phants Lodge.

Day 4

Hua Hin - Bangkok

All good things must come to an end and this is the last day of our four-day Hua Hin adventure. Before the journey back to Bangkok, we get a unique opportunity to learn about rescued animals at the Wildlife Rescue Centre and Elephant Refuge. We will see hundreds of creatures and get up close and personal to jumbos in a way that does not exploit them. The itinerary includes a guided tour to see staff go about their daily tasks caring for the animals. We will also gain an insight into the elephant’s individual stories, learn about their personalities and hear about conservation efforts to safeguard these gentle giants. Our visit will also help with the running costs of this facility. After a traditional Thai buffet lunch, we are transferred back to the capital.
