Day 1

Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre – Tra Vinh

We leave Ho Chi Minh City in the morning by a coach transfer to the Mekong Delta. After about two hours we arrive at Ben Tre, which is famed for its fruit orchards and coconut groves, hence it is nicknamed ‘the land of coconuts. We unload the bikes and start cycling on small village lanes in the direction of Tra Vinh. We ride under the shade of a coconut canopy and encounter friendly locals and farmers working the fields in this province which is known as the rice basket of Vietnam. We call by a local shop for refreshment and enjoy refreshing drinks and fruit. The Mekong Delta is at our rhythm, especially when we catch small ferries to cross abundant waterways. We arrive at Tra Vinh in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel. Lunch is a picnic enroute. Dinner is charged to your own account. The cycling distance is from 40 to 100 km depending on individual preference (with a support vehicle travelling along). The recommended distance is 50km.

Day 2

Tra Vinh – Tra On – Can Tho

After breakfast at the hotel, we take a warm-up ride to explore Tra Vinh Town. Tra Vinh has very visible Khmer heritage as the Khmer civilization flourished in this area and throughout the Mekong Delta in the 11th and 12th centuries. We then continue cycling toward Can Tho passing Tieu Can, Cau Ke and Tra On districts. Today, the trails lead us through some classic delta scenery – vivid green rice paddies, enhanced by towering coconut and water palm trees. The section between Cau Ke and Tra On offers a good insight to the types of tropical fruits grown in plentiful orchards. We cross the ferry in Tra On and the support vehicle takes us to Can Tho where we check-in to the hotel. Lunch is a picnic enroute. Dinner is charged to your own account. The cycling distance is from 40 to 100 km depending on individual preference (with a support vehicle travelling along). The recommended distance is 75 km.

Day 3

Can Tho – Cai Rang – Binh Thuy – Chau Doc

After an early breakfast we take a boat trip to witness the famous Cai Rang Floating Market. We then start cycling from Cai Rang to Binh Thuy (approximately 30 km) on small lanes alongside meandering canals, rivers and a typical Mekong Delta rustic landscape. We stop at an intriguing ancient house influenced by Chinese and colonial styles. This house was used in the famous French movie The Lover. We then proceed to Chau Doc and cycle on a green peninsula toward Chau Doc (around 40 km). The area sustains a large Khmer community and a diverse religious make-up of Buddhists, Catholics and Muslims. We then explore various farming activities such as rice cultivation and duck rearing. Next we visit a local home to interact with resident people. We arrive at Chau Doc late in the afternoon and check-in to the hotel. Second option: We take a ferry and ride on Mr.Tiger Island (A shorter journey of around 20km) and visit a local house to get an insight into life on this island. A picnic lunch is served enroute.
