Drive to Thong Yang Pier and take a ferry to Don Sak Pier in Surat Thani province on the mainland. The ferry departs from Thong Yang Pier at 8am, 10am, 12 noon, 2pm and 3pm. It takes approximately 90 minutes to reach Don Sak Pier from Koh Samui. Drive along the scenic east coast to Nai Plao Bay for a possible lunch stop. Continue to Nakorn Sri Thammarat and visit Wat Maha Dhat, reputed to be over 1,000 years old and the National Museum (closed on Monday/Tuesday). This facility contains relics dating back to the era when the region around Nakorn Sri Thammarat was a major trade centre for merchants from Indian, Arabic, Dvaravati and Champa states. You may also want to search for local handicrafts in the town, such as good quality baskets. Overnight at Twin Lotus Hotel

Day 2

Nakhon Sri Thammarat – Krabi

In the morning, visit local handicraft shops such for some good local bargains. Then drive 60 km along route number 403 to Thung Song for a short break and a visit to the local market. Here you will find several food shops for lunch options. Drive a further 150 km south to Krabi, via Huai Yot, on route numbers 403 and 4. A recommended option is Wat Tham Seua ‘Tiger Cave Temple’. The name of this temple originates from a small cave in which wild tigers once slept. These have long since vanished and the cave now houses a statue of a tiger, as well as numerous Buddha images. Another option is Susarn Hoi Shell Cemetery. This is an ancient shell cemetery, located 17 km from Krabi town. It contains a 200 metre stretch of exhibitions of fossils which are believed to be millions of years old and the coastline is covered with concrete slabs, which actually consist of thousands of tiny, fossilized snail shells. Day 4

Krabi – Phuket

Drive north 85 km on route number 4 to Phang Nga and visit the famous Phang Nga Bay National Park. An option is a long-tail boat ride to Koh Panyi and the famed ‘James Bond Island.’ The bay containing abundant limestone karst formations is the highlight natural attraction in this entire region. We suggest to have lunch at the Phang Nga Bay Resort Hotel upon return (parking available during boat tour). Drive further south to Phuket and visit Suwan Ku Ha Cave. This cave is located in a limestone mountain and is known locally as Wat Tam meaning temple cave, which is exactly what this cave is – a temple in a cave! Outside you will find a temple, stalls selling fruit, drinks and snacks and lots of monkeys. Continue to Phuket and cross the Sarasin Bridge and deliver your car to the car hire centre before 5pm.
