Day 1

Chiang Mai – Chiang Saen

We drive to Chiang Rai and stop en-route at Mae Kajan Hot Springs and then the famed Wat Rong Khun ‘White Temple.’ After lunch we continue to Chiang Saen, a Lanna-era capital situated on the Mekong River where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge. We then explore elevated Wat Phra Dhat Jom Kitti and then boat to the Golden Triangle to view Myanmar and Laos. Overnight at The Imperial Golden Triangle Resort.

Day 2

Chiang Saen – Chiang Rai

We head to Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town on the Myanmar border where we explore the local market, followed by a visit to the Fish and Monkey Cave. Our journey to Doi Mae Salong, takes in stunning mountain scenery. Mae Salong lays 1,800 metres above sea level and is famous for its tea plantations, Chinese temples, ethnic tribes and plenty of open-air bazaars offering Chinese specialties. A Yunnan-style lunch is served at Mae Salong Villa which has striking mountain and valley views. After lunch we drive to Chiang Rai to visit ‘Baan Dam’ Black House. This impressive structure is the unique creation of national artist Thawan Duchanee and is a combined art studio, museum and home and it contains an eclectic mix of traditional northern Thai buildings interspersed with outlandish modern designs. We then proceed to Chiang Rai, taking time en-route to relax at Cheevit Tammada, a quaint coffee house near the Kok River. Overnight at The Legend Chiang Rai Boutique River Resort & Spa.

Day 3

Chiang Rai – Mae Rim

Our adventure starts with a three-hour long-tail boat ride up the Kok River, passing tiny hill tribe villages and dense jungles. After lunch we visit Wat Thatorn, a large temple complex in a very attractive setting near the Myanmar border with magnificent views over the surrounding rural area. We then proceed to Mae Rim via Fang and Chiang Dao. Overnight at Hmong Hilltribe Lodge.

Day 4

Mae Rim – Chiang Mai

Our visit to an orchid farm gives a colourful insight into the wide variety of species grown in Thailand. Afterwards, we drive to the Elephant Poopoo Paper Park, an eco-friendly attraction that explains the unique steps involved in making paper products from elephant waste. Next is the Dara Pirom Palace Museum, an elegant property that belonged to one of the royal consorts of King Rama V. The building has been transformed into a museum and it contains a wide range of exhibits that showcase palace decor, as well as Chiang Mai’s rich culture and history. We then visit a handicraft enclave to observe the manufacture of lacquerware, the weaving of Thai Silk and the creation of paper umbrellas. Overnight at Centara Riverside Chiang Mai.

Day 5

Chiang Mai – Bangkok

Today we visit the most interesting temples in Chiang Mai such as Wat Phra Singh, with its famous Buddha image; Wat Chiang Man, the oldest temple in Chiang Mai built by King Mangrai; Wat Suan Dokwith, with its strong royal connections; and Wat Doi Suthep, which sits on a mountain at an elevation of 1,676 metres. After lunch, we transfer to Chiang Mai Airport for the flight back to Bangkok.
