We designed a few family activities deeply set into the heart of the hutongs and related to Chinese culture: crickets fighting, tenon architecture, mask painting, diablo juggling, and more. You will learn new things about chinese culture and have fun doing it!
This module activities will be Measuring Time Instruments and Mask Painting:
Visiting the Drum Tower you will explore its architectural features and the ancient timekeeping culture : how the equinox and solstice were determined, and in detail how -Sun clocks, Water clocks, Fire clocks and Mechanical clocks work.
Traditional Mask Painting: to learn the different mask and colors meaning, while re-painting followed by a master will surely remain with you as a dear memory

Set then onto a hutong exploration by rickshaw, ending by the characteristic lake of Houhai: here you may board a boat for a suggestive cruise, or by winter time – when all is frozen – have fun on the ice.

The day will start in Gulou, back of the Drum Tower, at 9 am. Class will be conducted in the private yard, for 45 minutes approximately for each subject. (Ancient Time Measuring Devices and Mask Painting) Snacks and fruit juices are available. Then by 10.30 your rickshaw will dive into hutong exploration, leaving you by the lakeside, to join your boat or ice fun! End of the program will be by 12.30 approximately.
