Jinshanling is the name given to the wall situated on the Jinshan Mountains. Its earliest section was built in the
6th Century but most of what you see now also dates from the Ming Dynasty.
Gubeikou has probably seen more battles than any other parts of the Great wall,
including some of the most famous in Chinese history. On the southern slope of Gubeikou stands a temple dedicated to Yang Ye, a famous Great Wall garrison general of the Song Dynasty. This is one of the oldest temples dedicated to this general in China.

Day 1

After Gathering at the meeting point, at 8:30 am we embark on a 2.5 hrs drive to the Gubeikou section of the Great Wall. Built as a strategic military strongpoint between Shanhaiguan and Juyongguan passes, this was once the only way to cross from Liaodong flatland and Inner Mongolia to the central plains of China. This led to it being a point of furious battles, especially during the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Upon arrival, we start our trek through a quaint village and across vast farmland before ascending the Gubeikou Great Wall. After three to four hours hiking, we arrive at the wall’s highest section, the 24-hole Guard Tower which is the last watchtower on this stretch of the structure. Along the way, our informative guide will reveal the history of the area prior to the second Sino-Japanese War. Once we reach the destination, you may enjoy a picnic lunch you have packed yourself. From the tower, the hike is around 1.5 to 2 hours to the campsite by the Great Wall, where your tent will be waiting for you. At the end of the day, we will spend time together and feast on a BBQ dinner. Photographic opportunities, stops, shooting techniques, photo setting, and hike timing will be decided by the Workshop teacher. Night shots opportunities will be as well arranged.

Day 2

Day 2

Start the day on a high watching sunrise from Jinshanlin Great Wall, an area dotted with ancient watchtowers. After breakfast at the campsite, we will make our way to the Jinshanling Great Wall. It will take about 4 hours to reach the East 5-Hole Guard Tower. Those who would like to hike farther can continue for another 800 meters then return to meet the group. After descending the mountain, we will have lunch and return to downtown Beijing or Beijing railway station. This concludes the two-day adventure that has seen us conquer some of the most impressive sections of the mighty fortification, and shared the opportunity to learn day and night shooting techniques literally walking on a unique monument. Carbon Emission Initiative - Gold Standard

As of 2020 Asian Trails has introduced a voluntary carbon offsetting initiative for our travellers to compensate for unavoidable emissions during their tours with us. Emissions during multi-day package tours (not including international flights to our destinations) are pegged at a cost of $1.50 per traveller per day. This amount is based on average daily emissions of travellers across our eight destinations. Contributions from clients to our carbon offsetting initiative will go into a destination-specific fund to support climate protection projects certified to Gold Standard in that country. Certification to Gold Standard assures that the projects supported through our carbon offsetting initiative not only reduce harmful emissions but also positively contribute to sustainable development. Our contributions to projects in a country will be relative to the CO2 emitted by our travelers in that destination.
