On Saturday, 21 October 2023, the British Chamber of Commerce in China hosted its annual British Ball at the China World Summit Wing Beijing. The largest Ball in town got even larger this year, with a record-breaking attendance of almost 800 guests. It brought a riotous night to the capital, raising hundreds of thousands for the charity partner Roots & Shoots, founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE.
This year’s theme, Brits and Blinders, transported attendees back to the 1920s with swing bands, cabaret performances, glamorous dresses, and sumptuous gastronomic experiences. Upon arrival, guests were greeted by a sparkling champagne reception and canapés before taking their seats to the sound of swing, a four-course meal, and a hotly-contested dance-off. After dinner, it was time for the dance floor together with Beijing’s best band and DJ, grooving until the early morning.
As a member of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, A Trails was proud to sponsor this incredible event, offering a Victoria Cruises Yangtze River cruise as one of the top prizes. Our Business Development Director, Justin Culkin, presented the prize to the lucky winner, who had the option to choose between two packages: a 5 days/4 nights upstream cruise from Yichang to Chongqing or a 4 days/3 nights downstream cruise from Chongqing to Yichang.
The cruise package included two tickets for a superior cabin on the main deck of the luxurious Victoria Sabrina, meals on board, and three shore excursions, including visits to Shuang Guishan Mountain at Fengdu, Goddess Stream, and the Three Gorges Dam site.
The Ball was a huge success, and we look forward to attending and fully supporting the British Chamber of Commerce in China at next year’s event!
